Last day in Italy

We will be flying back to Singapore tomorrow morning.

These few days I have been very emotional as I looked around this little apartment which has been our warm, little home for the past few months. I felt an urge to tear as I know I'm not gonna be back here again.

To be frank, I dun feel like going back to Singapore. (To family and friends, please dun misunderstand. I miss you guys and am glad that I can have gatherings with you all.) There are just too many reality issues to face.

Once back in Singapore, hubby and I will be staying in our parents home first, so we won't be staying together. We really love the feeling of having our own home. Our BTO? I think it will only be ready in 4 to 5 months time, so meanwhile, just have to endure another 4 to 5 months lo. With a flat, means we will carry the HDB housing loan for the next 25 years, so we cannot be out of job until we are old due to this huge liability.

So many things to settle about our wedding banquet. Sad to say, wedding should be a happy occasion but all the preparation for the banquet where our friends stand only around 20% of the guests, I am really not so enthusiastic about it. That's the problem with traditional wedding banquet, it's for the parents, not for the couple.

Did I mention that my parents actually asked me to get pregnant asap when my wedding banquet is over? Please give me a break, I'm just not ready to have kids. I hate such nagging.

I guess the part which I will enjoy the most should be the pre-wedding photo-shoot, because it's just the two of us involve and it's for us. That's something which I'm looking forward to! Next Friday will be it! I hope Feline Bridal wont mess it up.

Of course, there are also other reality issues that arise, like whether I still have a job in my previous company or do I have to look for new job, and return to the mundane dread Mondays, love Fridays life. Morning squeeze MRT with black face and being coop up doing things that I dun enjoy until evening for another dunno how many donkey years.

The thought of all these make me feel like I am being thrown from my sweet dream with lots of freedom back to the sad and restrictive reality. Oh right, not to mention the squeezy MRT, shopping centers, hot and humid weather, and the stupid super duper expensive COE which makes it impossible for us to have a car after my hubby's current car is scraped.

No more weekend trips to nearby towns with beautiful scenery.

Oh well, that sucks.

But still, gotta give credit to hubby for bringing me here, letting me experience something which I would never have experience if I am still stuck in Singapore. Going to places where we will never explore if not for being here. And this blog, I dun think I will start a blog if I am still in Singapore holding a full time job. This happy and wonderful year in Italy will always be in my memory. Thank you hubby.

Ciao, Italia.. :'(

Our finale weekend in Italy

What did we do during our last weekend in Italy? We shopped, ate all the nice pizzas and pastas that we know we're gonna miss, bid farewell to the owners of the restaurants we frequent, drove up the mountain for night sky gazing and just enjoy the fresh, cold air here.

We started our outing on Saturday at Lindt Chocolate Factory, buying some chocolates back to Singapore for friends.

There's this super big Lindt bear outside the factory outlet, I must take a pic with it! But erm, I look as if I'm surrendering to the bear.

Christmas-y decor inside the factory outlet.

Heh heh.. I bought something else other than chocolates in the factory outlet. Introducing Trudi! The cutie sea lion.

I also love the pretty red jacket I'm wearing, newly bought in Varese. Heehee.

For dinner that night, we went to one of our favourite restaurants - Ristorante Pizzeria Da Enzo. Their pastas and pizzas are awesome and the boss is very nice and friendly. Sometimes, the boss will offer us some specialty alcohol like Limoncello or Bananacello after our meal. We chatted with the boss and told him that this was our last visit to Enzo as we will be returning to Singapore next week. Hubby and I felt quite emotional after we left the place.

Since it's our last visit to Enzo, we decided to indulge and ordered their Lobster Linguine! Actually, I dun think it's very ex for 16 Euros. The lobster meat was super fresh, sweet and succulent! Absolutely thumbs up for this dish!

The boss helped hubby to tie the napkin around his neck to prevent the Lobster sauce from splashing onto his clothes.. Hubby said he look funny with the napkin Lol..

After our dinner we went night sky gazing at Schiaparelli Astronomical Society, which is located up in the mountains in Varese. It started with a briefing to give a background of the Observatory. It was conducted in Italian, but we were okay because we had previously joined the day tour so we already had some information about it.

The highlight came when we were asked to go out into the chilly open space for night sky gazing. It was super cold and windy, but it was worth it! We didn't take any pictures at all because it was too dark there and we were too cold to shoot anything.

Our excellent guides Luca and Federica showed us how to identify the constellations in the night sky. It was amazing! We saw the Big Dipper (a pot shaped constellation that consists of 7 stars), and Federica told us that one end of the Big Dipper points towards the North Star. The position of the North Star does not change, so it will always be in the north direction. Hubby was excited that we're able to see the Big Dipper and the North Star because they cannot be seen from the equator.

I also learnt how to identify the Orion belt (a straight line of 3 stars) of a warrior, and its shoulders and feet. Through the telescope, we saw M-42 nebula just beside the Orion Belt! The telescope showed a spot of cloudy matter which was the M-42 nebula.

I saw the eye of Taurus! My horoscope! Heehee. And Gemini. Gemini constellation has 2 stars side by side which represent the head and further down, there's another 2 stars side by side which represent the feet.

Then, we used a telescope to see Andromeda galaxy! It showed up as a clutter of faint lights in the telescope. It totally cannot be seen with our naked eyes.

It was almost full moon when we were there. So we couldn't see some of the faint stars. Luca told us that if there's no moon, we could actually see the milky way with our naked eyes!

Next, we went into an Observatory dome to use a larger telescope to see the Jupiter. We could see a round moon-like Jupiter in the telescope with 3 small spots around it. The small spots are Jupiter's biggest moons.

Luca told us that during the winter months this year, the bright spot that we can see at 11 pm is Jupiter. We will only be able to see Saturn during the wee hours of the day at 5am O.o I'm not gonna wake up so early la. He also told us that the bright spot we can see during sunset is Venus.

If we want to see Saturn during the night time at around 11pm, we will have to wait till spring or summer. We thought it should be interesting to see Saturn because it has a beautiful ring around it. Too bad, we missed it.

So, the bright spot we saw in this sunset photo is Venus!

Okay, that's about all the information I remembered. The night star gazing ended at 11pm. We were tired but had a fruitful night!

On Sunday, we just went to Vicolungo outlets for last minute shopping, and had our dinner at I Fontanili, which is located in a restored manor. The ambience is superb and they serve really delicious pizzas. We will miss the Italian pizzas when we are back in Singapore. We seldom see really delicious Italian pizzas in Singapore.

My emotional write up now. I have been here in Italy for 11 months already. Finally, it's the time to say goodbye to Italy. I felt really emotional about leaving here, especially when we bid goodbye to the owners of the restaurants which we frequent. The bosses at some of these restaurants are really friendly and helpful. I remember there was once when we nearly missed our flight as we got the wrong timing of the shuttle bus to the airport, and we approached the boss of Ristorante China Long and he immediately sent us to the airport. We are so grateful to him, even till now. He will also give us some discounts or free fruits as desserts. I think such hospitality and closeness between the patrons and the owner of the restaurant is seldom seen in Singapore. But it's these little things that make us return to these restaurants because we felt at home there.

This morning I bid goodbye to the cleaner auntie as it will be her last time cleaning my apartment. She always tried to start a conversation with me although there's language barrier between us. I like that she always say that I'm "bella" (bella means pretty ^-^). Today, before she left, we hugged and said goodbye. She kept asking if I will be coming back and I said "No." 我的心又酸了一下。

Of course, we're also reluctant to leave this little apartment of our own, the beautiful scenery here and this cold cold weather.

Okay, the happy thing about going back is to meet friends and family! But, at the same time, I love the freedom I have here. I'm experiencing the 百感交集 feel now.

Update on our complaint on EasyJet

2 months have passed and EasyJet has not replied anything about our complaint. I have posted on Twitter, tagging EasyJet, about their lousy customer service a few times in the past 2 months, and whenever I do that, they will ask me to direct message (DM) them the reference number and email. But every time after I DM them the reference number and email, they will continue to ignore me and so, until now, I have yet to receive any reply from their customer service.

Today, I posted on Twitter again and the same thing, they asked me for my reference number and email again. I told them "I had given u many times already. I had enough!"

After that was a series of standard business replies again which I dun even bother to read anymore. I totally give up already. The thought of it will only make my blood boil, so I just want to wipe away this unpleasant moment from my memory from now onwards.

Probable completion date of my new house: end Feb 2014

Today I logged into myHDB and saw that the probable completion date of my new BTO was updated from 1st quarter 2014 to end Feb 2014! But I'm not really happy, because I have heard some rumours saying that the keys should be ready in Jan 2014, so I actually expected it to be earlier.

Probable completion date end Feb 2014, means I will get my keys maybe 1 month later, which will be end Mar 2014?! My wedding is already over, and we can't move into our house directly after our wedding. Taking into consideration another 2 to 3 months for renovation, it will be May or June 2014. :(

Now, we have a even bigger issue which is the Housing Loan. I am not working for the past one year, and I am still not sure whether my previous company still have vacancy for me. If they do not have, I intend to find a full-time job only after my wedding is over. Reason being, there are many things to settle for our wedding and new house now. Moreover, usually a new job will have probation period for the first 3 months and it's hard for me to take leave when I'm in a new job.

So, when we apply the Housing Loan from HDB, I dun have any income to report and HDB will calculate the amount of loan we can get base on my hubby's salary, which is is not sufficient to cover the cost of my new house. Even after wiping out our CPF, we might still need to fork out some cash.

"Arghhh!!" Is what I am feeling right now.

The real Portuguese egg tart

There's a worldwide cultural fair at Fiera Milano (Milan's Expo) and we saw a stall selling the real Portuguese egg tart. I have eaten Portuguese egg tarts selling in Macau and Singapore, but I have never tried the real one from Portugal. So it's a must to try it!

I was disappointed when I first put it into my mouth as it was cold! I love pipping hot egg tarts fresh from the oven! But as I continue to taste and eat it, I find it really tasty even though it was cold. Yup.

As compared to the Portuguese egg tart we had in Macau, the crust of this real Portuguese egg tart is less oily but it's as crispy as the Macau one. As I chewed the egg tart, there's a tinge of 焦味 aroma spread in my mouth. Oh, I love that taste! The Macau one dun have that aroma. The egg filling is also not the same the Macau one. Macau's egg filling is more fluffy, while this is firmer. Their tastes are also slightly different. I would say each has it's own merits.

Hmm. If I were to choose, I will prefer the real Portuguese egg tart as it's less oily and I prefer the firmer texture of the egg filling with strong egg aroma. The only thing that I'm unhappy with the real Portuguese egg tart: It's cold when served.

Lucerne and Mount Titlis: Our last trip to the Swiss before returning to SG

Our last trip to Switzerland before returning SG. We planned to spend our Saturday in Lucerne and Mount Titlis on Sunday. I love snow mountains and Switzerland so knowing that it's the last trip, I felt really emotional.

We arrived in Lucerne after a 3 hours drive and checked in to Ibis Budget Hotel. It's the cheapest and decent hotel we could find in Lucerne. One thing to say about this hotel is the toilet and shower area. They are separate and there's no lock for the toilet and shower doors. It'll be quite inconvenient for friends travelling together.

This is the toilet door, inside only got a toilet bowl la. There's no lock and the hole in the door is the 'knob' to pull open the door. See, hubby's fingers poking out of the hole.. Lol!

The shower area door with no lock. You can peep through the transparent gaps to see the person showering inside, and there're gaps on top and at the bottom. Water will splash out of the shower area one.

Okay, then we went out to explore Lucerne. Lucerne is a city near Lake Lucerne, and its famous attractions are the old town and the Chapel Bridge. The shops were closing when we were there, and having seen so many old towns in other European cities, Lucerne's old town is nothing special la, so really nothing much to explore. Comparing lakeside cities, we think Interlaken is more beautiful.

The Chapel Bridge

Christmas decor everywhere

Night view of Lucerne old town

Square in Lucerne Old Town, it's quite a small one

Me walking on Chapel Bridge, cold die me

Saw an ice skating ground across the road from Lucerne train station

Candle light dinner, so romantic. We didn't plan for this. We came across this restaurant on our way back to hotel. We were freezing so wanna find a place to get some warmth.

The food was good! Hubby ordered their Lucerne's specialty "Veal sausage with mushroom sauce in pastry" and I ordered my favourite Cheese Fondue. Chou hubby, asked him to take a picture of my Cheese Fondue, he said "take le, take le". This picture focus on his food and cannot see my Cheese Fondue lor, only can see the pot nia. >.<

On Sunday, we checked out hotel and drove towards Engelberg where we took the cable car up to Mount Titlis. It was super cold that day. Even at Engelberg (1000 m in altitude), it's already -5 degrees celsius.

Snow covered parking. Hubby drove super careful because brakes dun work very well in such snowy and slippery road conditions as the wheels will still skid a distance after stepping on the brakes.

A real and snow-covered Christmas tree! It's so big! I'm so tiny.

When we were buying tickets, we were stunned that it's only 52 CHF  per person for a return ticket to Titlis because I saw online that it's 89 CHF per person for return ticket. We were so surprised that we stoned for a while and the staff had to keep repeating 104 CHF to us. Lol. Heehee. We were super happy la.

We took 3 different types of cable cars to reach Titlis. The first one was the small cabin cable car which has a maximum capacity of 6 people. We changed at Trubsee to a big cable car, then changed again at Stand to the Rotair (the rotating cable car) to go up Mount Titlis.

This is the Rotair. The rotating was quite funny la. Only the floor was rotating so when I held the bar by the windows, I realised my arms was stretching as the floor rotates, so I need to keep changing bars to hold. Lol.

We arrived on Titlis and grabbed some food for lunch first. We managed to get a window seat and this was our view while having our lunch. Nothing worthy to mention about the food because it's not nice.

After lunch, we walked around and saw the Glacier Cave. We happily thought that it would be similar to the Ice Palace at Jungfraujoch but erm.. Everything was under construction and there's nothing to see.

We saw the sign board for the Cliff Walk (highest suspension bridge in Europe). It's 250 meters away from the main building. Seems near eh, but when walking in snowy, super cold and strong winds condition, dun say 250 meters, 100 meters also cannot tahan man.

The wind was so strong and cold that my eyes kept tearing and I couldn't open them. We had to keep stopping and turned our backs to face the direction of the winds, because of the randomly flying snow flakes. If got hit by the snow flakes very pain one, and might get cut.

See the flying snow flakes.

Finally, we reached the suspension bridge. Wind was still very strong when we were walking on it. It's very scary as the bridge kept shaking, and at the same time we have to protect our face from the flying snow flakes and the strong wind. I was so scared that I cried when I was in the middle of the bridge, and hubby scared dio when he saw me kept crying. Lol. Then hubby asked me to dry the tears, because if the tears froze on my cheeks, it will be super painful.

Looking down from the suspension bridge. Scary.

At the other end of the suspension bridge

View on the bridge. Nice.

Then we returned to the main building and had some hot chocolate and cappuccino at the cafe before going back to Engelberg.

Anyway, we met a group of funny Malaysian tourists in the Rotair. There was a super crappy and funny uncle in that group, he talked a lot of crap and it's been a long time since I laughed so hard. He said himself is "超级猛男" and only his wife has the ability to tame this "猛男". He talked a lot of other craps la.

When they knew we are from Singapore, he said we 有水准 because Singapore currency is now bigger than Ringgit, 2.5 Ringgit = 1 SGD, we were like ??!!!, the crap came out of nowhere. Hubby asked him which part of Malaysia are they from, and the uncle 竟然 gave the crappiest answer "那个不重要,重要的是我们在这里相遇!" I seriously wanna 拜 him for his crappiness already. Then he said to my hubby "Wah, 你有水准阿,来意大利做工,又有美女老婆陪." Lol.

A group of China aunty also joined in the conversation. The crappy uncle asked the China aunty "你坐什么飞机来这里?" Somehow the aunty heard the question wrongly, and she said "军用飞机". The uncle miraculously crap with her "Wah! 你更有水准,坐军用飞机来!" We seriously laugh until we buey tahan.

Anyway, it's time to change to the small cabin cable car liao. So we say bye bye to them la. There was forest of snowy Christmas trees beneath us while we were in the cable car. This was the best Christmas feel ever!

Back at Engelberg, it was a crazy -10 degrees Celsius. Burrr..

In the midst of low-lying clouds, there's a clear hole for us to peek at the mountain top. Nice!

-10 degrees Celsius

And we said bye bye to Switzerland and the snowy mountains, and started our journey home :(

Benefits of Lemon Honey and Cinnamon Honey

As my wedding date gets nearer, I think it's time for me to pick up some healthy diets and lifestyle to maintain good skin and shape. I read online that there are multiple benefits of drinking warm lemon honey water and warm cinnamon honey water. So I started drinking warm lemon honey water in the morning and warm cinnamon honey water before bed.

Benefits of lemon, honey and cinnamon:
1. Cleanse the system
Lemon is effective in flushing out the body waste and helps in detoxification of the body. Honey helps prevent constipation. I've tried it and it's true. Since I started this routine, there's no more constipation for me.
2. Improve immune system
Honey and lemon help to improve the immune system, while cinnamon has anti-bacteria properties and can help to fight flu bugs.
3. Balance PH levels
Diseases such as cancer thrive well in acidic bodies. Lemon has high content of citric acid, but once in the body, lemon becomes alkaline in nature. Honey and cinnamon has anti-oxidant properties. Hence, honey, cinnamon and lemon can help to prevent cancer.
4. Healthy skin
Honey and lemon help to maintain healthy skin. Lemon have skin whitening effects due to the high content of Vitamin C. I have experimented it myself before. I used to have brown spots and rough skin on my arms. After squeezing out the lemon juice to make lemon honey water, I used the remaining lemon skin and pulp to rub my arms. After a few months, my arms became smoother and the brown spots were lightened too.
5. Freshens breath
Although lemon helps to freshen breath in the morning, it also aggravate my sensitive teeth due to its high content of citric acid because citric acid can erode tooth enamel. Do not brush teeth directly after drinking lemon honey water! There was once when I drank warm lemon honey water first, then I went to brush my teeth immediately. Hell! My teeth got the achy and sensitive feel for the rest of the day. In order to reduce the effects of the citric acid on the teeth, brush teeth before drinking lemon honey water and gargle with salt water or water after drinking lemon honey water.
6. Aids in weight loss
This is the most important reason why I started drinking lemon honey and cinnamon honey water. I had tried drinking lemon honey water many years ago and it was proven to be effective, I have lost about 8Kg in a year. Of course, with the help of exercising and maintain a healthy diet. I read that cinnamon aids in weight loss too as it balances the blood sugar.
7. Soothes indigestion
The antiseptic properties of honey helps to relieve acidity in the stomach and neutralized the gases, thus help to sooth indigestion.
8. Reduce cholesterol
Honey and cinnamon help to reduce cholesterol and lower blood pressure. Cinnamon is also beneficial for heart disease and diabetes patients.
9. Relieve menstrual cramp
I read online that cinnamon can relieve menstrual cramp. I usually have super bad cramps but this month, it was not as painful, although I still got the discomfort feel. I shall monitor for another month before I come up with a conclusion.
10. Aids in a good night sleep
Drinking honey before bed can help in having a good night sleep. It will also help our body to burn fats while we are sleeping. Hmm. This is too good to be true.

Effects of lemon
All along I have the impression that eating fruits that are sour will cause my period to come earlier, more painful and heavier flow. But lemon delayed my period instead, until I stopped drinking lemon honey water. The flow was a little bit heavier than previous months though. During my period, I stop taking lemon honey water and replace the morning drink with cinnamon honey water.

I have gastric problems so I actually cut down the amount of lemon I use in the lemon honey water and I must eat breakfast after drinking it. I have read online that people recommend replacing breakfast with lemon honey water. I will not recommend people who have gastric problems to do this. On days when I already feel very hungry in the morning or my stomach is already not comfortable, I will drink cinnamon honey instead.

Buying pure honey
Since I consume honey everyday, I must ensure the honey that I buy is pure, beneficial honey. If I bought those that contain artificial sugar, it will instead do more harm to my body.

How to identify real, pure honey?
Unfortunately, you can't really tell just by looking at it. But there are a few tips here.
1. Overturn the bottle of honey, it should form a round bubble that will float slowly to the top. If it floats fast, the water content of that bottle of honey is quite high.
2. Drip the honey into a cup, it should drip in a continuous flow. If it break in between, chances are some artificial sugar was added to it.
3. Add a spoonful of honey and put it in a cup of water. Do not stir. 10 minutes later, check back. If the honey does not dissolve, it's real honey. If it dissolves, it probably has artificial sugar and water. Pure honey will not dissolve easily in water, need to stir it for it to dissolve.

Yea, so that's all about lemon honey water and cinnamon honey water that I would like to share. Thanks for reading. Ciao!

Updates: Concept of our house

An update to the concept of our house.

Living Room
After reading up more on Feng Shui, I realised there are other remedies for direct alignment of main door and windows. So I decided not to build a 屏风 at my entrance. I will instead use the round dining table and a round ceiling lamp above the dining table to slow down the flow of 'chi' in my house.

We will still put a shoe cabinet and a bench near the entrancee. I found these pretty benches sold in Qoo10.

And the fake ceiling of our living room, I want it to be curvy shape at the corners instead of 90 degrees angle corners, because Feng Shui don't like sharp corners. Lol..

For our kitchen, after studying our floor plan, we cannot use the picture I posted in my previous post already la. Our kitchen is rectangular in shape and at the other end, there's a door to the service yard and 2 very ugly panels of windows (one set on each side of the door). The power point and water pipes are already fixed by HDB. So we can only do our kitchen cabinet on one side of our kitchen. Nearest to the service yard will be the sink, above the sink, we'll build a dish rack (for drying of the dishes) cabinet.

Next to the sink will be the stove, above the stove will be a open exhaust fan (with the pretty steel one la), and some lights attached to it so there'll be lights shining when we cook.

Next to the stove will be the kitchen cabinets for storage with table top, we want to have hanging kitchen cabinets as well, and install lights at the bottom of the hanging kitchen cabinets to make the table top brighter.

Opposite the kitchen cabinet will be our fridge and we should be putting a table beside the fridge.

Walk-in wardrobe
We read online that open concept walk-in wardrobe will cause the clothes to attract dust and moisture. So, we will get a nice wardrobe with door instead la.  We will put the wardrobe along the length of the room (away from the door side), my dressing table will be opposite the wardrobe and near to the windows. I intend to put some nice benches in the walk-in wardrobe room as well. Benches like the one I mentioned above will be good.

Just realised that HDB has already installed the toilet bowl, basin, shower head, floor tiles and wall tiles for us. The wall tiles, shower head and floor tiles are really ugly. They also installed the old school drainage (the one with many holes and in pale yellow color) for us. I think it will be a major overhaul for our toilets. I don't want the old school drainage, I don't want the wall tiles, the floor tiles and the shower head. Haiz, dunno how much is the overhaul of the 2 toilets going to cost us.

That's our plan for now. When we get the keys, I will go and study the directions of our house and apply the Feng Shui theories I learnt online. Lol.. Till then I will decide on the colors of each area and the material used for the kitchen cabinets etc.

Monday, 25 November 2013

Last Friday, I suddenly woke up in the middle of the night because my tooth hurts badly. I started researching what causes toothache and found many reasons such as tooth decay, abscess tooth, gum infection, gingivitis etc. No matter what reason was it, I am afraid of going to the dentist, or worse, my tooth has to be pluck out.

So I immediately went to brush my teeth in the middle of the night hoping that it will become better. Luckily, it was better when I woke up and the pain gradually disappear on Saturday.

But hell! It came back on Sunday! I start to panic liao, and research for home remedies online and saw many people tried putting minced garlic on the affected tooth. They said garlic can kill bacteria and hence, putting minced garlic on the affected tooth will kill the bacteria that cause the infection.

So, I took a clove of garlic and popped into my mouth and chew it with the teeth at the side of my affected tooth. OMG! It was damnnnn painful and burning! After a few minutes, the burning sensation started to subside and I covered the affected tooth with the garlic for half an hour before rinsing my mouth with salt water and spit out the remaining crushed garlic in my mouth.

My mouth was super stinky with garlic smell la. I went to brush my teeth and I went to sleep. This morning when I woke up, wah, the garlic smell still there. But my tooth was no longer painful. Instead, my cheek was swollen and a small part of my tongue got the burning sensation. I think the garlic was so strong that it not only killed the bacteria, it also burnt my cheek and tongue.

Anyway, today I kept gargling salt water to reduce the swelling of my cheek. Hopefully, I will recover soon. Garlic, proven by Jiajia, that it can really kill bacteria, although it nearly killed my tongue and cheek too. Okay, powerful garlic, give it my nod of approval.

One thing to take note. We should not take excessive garlic as it might cause body odour, try to limit to one clove of raw garlic per day for adults.

A rough concept of our house..

Recently there're a lot of updates about our Seng Kang BTO on the Facebook page. Some have news from reliable sources that we might be able to receive the letter in Dec or Jan. Many of them have already started sourcing for IDs and shopping for furniture. But we, being in Italy, couldn't do any of these. The most that we can do is to surf Courts and Ikea websites to look for furniture ideas and using the Homestyler program to roughly draw out the plan for our house.

So here's the 2D image of the rough idea we have for our house. We're keeping the renovation simple and splurge on buying beautiful furniture.
Home in Living Room, Family Room, Bedroom, Office Room, Bathroom, Kitchen
Living Room
We want a sky blue and white theme for the living room. So we intend to paint one side of the wall sky blue while the other walls remain white color, and to hang a huge painting on the wall as decoration. We should be getting white Sofa and TV console. For the curtains and carpet, I hope I can find sky blue ones. I want to put one or two floor cushion or bean bag to make the living room more cosy. Then there's also the coffee table and dining table and chairs, these will fill my living room.

We want to put a built-in shoe cabinet with a 屏风 or some other designs near the main door. Because according to feng shui, if it's a straight line from your main door to the big window, then you need something tall enough in between to block it. Hubby wants to put a small bench beside the shoe cabinet too. But all these have to see if we have ample space la.

I got a sample picture that I wanna copy. Nice?

Master Bedroom
Hmm. Initially, I want my bedroom walls to be pink color. Hubby is also okay with pink but I scared pink bedroom 招桃花 so I need to check about feng shui first before I decide on the color. I think some cute couple wall stickers on the walls as decoration will be sweet and cute. Anyway, our bedroom will just have a queen size bed, 2 night tables, a small cabinet and a lazy chair. No TV, no wardrobes. Simple, nice and conducive eh. Lol..

Walk-in wardrobe
We will convert the room nearer to the master bedroom into a walk-in wardrobe, but not a built-in one. So that it's open to changes in case we want to use that room for other purpose in future. My dressing table will also be in this room. So, we will be shopping for wardrobe that dun have doors! I found this in Ikea''s brochure and I think it suits us well.

Study room
The other room shall be our study room. Just a long table to put 2 computers, and a book cabinet will be all for this room. Oh, hubby wants to put a world map wall sticker as decoration.

No idea for toilet yet. Just a toilet bowl, a sink and a shower area. Okay, that's 废话!

Yup, so that's about it for the rough concept of our house. Oh, the lighting. For the living room, we'll have fake ceiling at the sides and corners to install the spot lights. In the middle of the living room and at the dining table, we'll have a lamp fixed on the ceiling. For bedroom, just fake ceiling at the sides and corners to install the spot lights is enough. The other rooms, kitchen and toilets, we'll just use normal lighting lor.

Roadhouse Grill (Italy Gallarate): Great Deals Thursday and Sunday!

Went to a restaurant called Roadhouse Grill near our house. It has great deals on Thursday and Sunday of the week.

For Sunday Super Deal, they have the All-You-Can-Eat Ribs at 10 Euros (usual price at 14.90 Euros and without the All-You-Can-Eat deal)! Yes! You did not see wrongly, ribs at 10 Euros and you can keep adding because it's All-You-Can-Eat! The ribs come with a side, either steamed potato or fries. With this promo, you could add ribs (not the fries and potato) as and when you want, it will come in half rack for each additional order.

One thing I love about this deal, it is not compulsory for me to order the All-You-Can-Eat Ribs when my hubby ordered it. I can never find such generous deals in Singapore as the restaurants usually will make it compulsory if one of the diners ordered the All-You-Can-Eat deal, his companions will have to order that as well. But here, I ordered salad while my hubby ordered the All-You-Can-Eat Ribs, and we openly shared the ribs. No issues, no worries, and our final bill turned out quite cheap lol. We think they have a very good spirit: If we dare to have the All-You-Can-Eat deal, we are not scared of you ordering! Love it!

Dun be fooled by the appearance of the ribs, it's actually very juicy and tasty. We were kinda disappointed when we first saw the ribs but it turned out to be good! Yum yum..

For Thursday Super Deal, all their Roadhouse Burgers are on half price! We went and hubby ordered the Maxi Burger at 6.45 Euros (usual price at 12.90 Euros)! It was seriously huge with 500 grams of meat, and it's bigger than my face! Hubby was full when he finished only half of the burger and we dabao the other half and the fries lol.. Sia suay la. The Italian guys who ordered this can really finish the whole plate! O.O

There were also other days we went when there's no promo la., we not so yao gui one la, go only when there's promo lol.. I ordered their ribeye steak. OMG, it's so delicious, juicy, tender and fragrant! It comes with a side, either steam potatoes, fries, salad or spinach. I had the steam potato la, but I was too overwhelmed by the steak that I forgot to take pics of the side dish heehee..

Feel like having a meal there? They have many branches in Italy, check it out here. Writing this post make me so hungry now! Arghh!

Our experience at Osservatorio Astronomico, Varese

Hubby booked an appointment with Osservatorio Astronomico (Astronomical Observatory) for a visit on Saturday.

But stupid us got the time wrong and we under-estimated the time required to get to the Observatory. It was already closing when we were there. It took us about half an hour to drive up the winding roads to get to the entrance and walk further in, climbing steep slopes. The Observatory has to be at a place where there's minimal lights, so have to walk deep deep inside. Seriously, all the places with beautiful scenery or nature require me to walk until I wanna die.

Since the Observatory was already closed, we walked out to the entrance and watched the sunset.

Beautiful sunset, the moon, lakes, city lights and a very bright star (we guessed it's Venus) all in one pic. The very bright star looks very faint in this pic. It's the small tiny bright dot in the middle of the sky.

While admiring the sunset, we saw lightning bolts shining from a huge piece of dark cloud from a far! Wah, I have never seen lightning bolts from this angle before. Hubby managed to capture a pic with the lightning bolts.

Along the orange color horizon on the left side, there's a huge piece of dark cloud. The orange light, shining from the dark clouds, which resembles the color of the city lights, is the lightning bolt we saw. And the very bright star is very obvious in this pic.

Anyway, when the sky was getting dark, we started experimenting some silly stuffs. Hubby sets his camera for long exposure while we drew/write various things with flash lights to get these effects.

Me drawing heart shape

I posed in this position for 5 seconds on each side to get this effect.. Lol..

Hubby is good at writing mirror image.. So let him do the writing..

Some stars in the sky. Moon was very bright that night so the stars were less visible.

So, we came back for the Observatory tour on Sunday again. There're many low lying clouds on Sunday and we were walking in the misty misty woods. Wow! Got the fairy tale feel leh, made me thought of the scene where Snow White got lost in the woods and met the Seven Dwarfs.. Lol.. Anyway, it's autumn now la, so no snow but the trees were botak already and the ground was filled with fallen brown leaves.

We met the guide, Luca, when we were climbing the steep slopes up and I was panting like mad. We were again quite late and he was knocking off soon. But he was so nice, he walked back to the Observatory with us and guided us around.

Our nice guide Luca. I will give him 10 out of 10 for his passion towards astronomy and his tour. ^-^

Some background of the Observatory. It's standing at 1200 meters above sea level and it's the only one in Italy that has 3 domes. The number of clear days was about 1/3 of the year at this Observatory, not considered excellent. We were shown some pictures of the moving stars, nebulas etc. taken by the telescopes in the Observatory. Luca told us that they took hours to take pictures of the moving stars and they have to adjust the angle of the telescope accurately.

Then, we were brought into the dome where we saw the 70 cm reflecting telescope.

Luca explained how the telescope works, how the dome can rotate so that the astronomers can choose the exact location that they want to observe. Luca also provided some information on how the astronomers determine the stages of the life of a star, like whether is it dying. The tour lasted for about 45 minutes.

They have the night tour to view stars which we thought was even more interesting as we could really use the telescopes to see the stars in the sky. Luca said that from now till February are the months of Jupiter, he also mentioned some other months will be the months of Saturn (I can't remember which months). Hubby already registered for the night star gazing tour in December. Hopefully, there's nice weather and we will be able to see the stars. Yippee!

When we were out of the Observatory, we noted a signboard pointing to Terrace Paranomica. So we went up the stairs to take a look and this was what we saw.

The views were beautiful but it was super duper windy and freezing cold up there. Dunno what happened but it seemed like there's strong wind suddenly.

And it's confirmed that there's strong winds throughout the area. Even when we're back in Gallarate, the wind was strong and freezing cold with speed of 46 km/h! In such weather, it's best to stay at our warm and cosy little home.

The we were curious. If Gallarate's wind speed was 46 km/h, what would be the wind speed on the Observatory? We checked and it's 68 km/h, with strongest gust of wind at 104 km/h. Woah! I think I will get blown away if I am still there. Scary..

Alright, so that's all for our astronomical weekend!
